The first post office in Rowlett opened up on April 5, 1880. The railroad reached Rowlett in 1889. By the early 1900's, Rowlett was a thriving community, with many stores and services. Rowlett today contains over 55,000 people. The largest recent transformations is the completion of the PGBT, which created direct access to downtown Rowlett, and the DART station, which is adjacent to downtown. The Rowlett Dart station is the terminus of the Green Line, therefore has strong ridership counts and funnels people to downtown. Today, Downtown is active with new projects, including the Village of Rowlett, a $30 million mixed-use project, and the Bankhead Brewery.
